One of the fun things I enjoy about traveling in Italy, is the sense of celebration and joyful surprises around every piazza. One morning, for no reason at all, I heard music, and when I looked out my upstairs window, a large group of medieval characters came marching through Piazza San Francesca, the Medieval Procession-Lucca. I had heard that they could be seen at intervals throughout the week following the Volto Santo (Holy Face) Luminaria.
Throughout Italy, you will discover historical parades, food festivals, and costumed processions, like the Medieval Procession-Lucca. You may contact the local tourist boards to find out exact dates of medieval festivals and more.
