Laundry and Shrine
Lavanderia e Santuari:
The practical and the holy in Italy exist together with shrines and religious reminders in many homes and on every corner.
There are few clothes dryers in Italy–too expensive to run due to high energy prices and natural resource limitations. I was dizzy and a little scared hanging my underwear out and taking it in from my second story room.
There are shrines in seashells offered up as a prayer for the men out at sea for safe return and success in their daily fishing excursions.
